Taylor needs funds to finish an album - his loss could be your gain (click link)

Taylor is one of the hardest-working musicians we know. A busy performer both as a solo act and with his band, he needs versatility from his stable of instruments.

He asked us to come up with a variation on a popular semi-hollow model. Simplicity was paramount in the selection of almost no ornamentation such as binding and inlays, with only one volume and tone control.

Taylor wanted the selector switch in a familiar location: he also owns a Les Paul so we put it on the upper bout.

For pickups Taylor requested Gibson 57 Classics, which we potted into satin black covers. Sperzel locking tuners and stop-tailpiece and bridge from WD Music Products completed the hardware.

Part of our strategy for this guitar was to keep costs moderate and still have an instrument that would outperform existing models of similar guitars.

Also inspired by his Gibson was the choice of mahogany body and flame-maple top. We selected a top of SOLID arched flame maple.

All other such guitars use a laminated top (plywood).

We have had great success with our semi-hollow guitars over the past 10 years, and the acoustic properties of every one of them have been superior to most others. This guitar is no exception, and is in fact the best of them all. It is noticeably louder and sounds more "acoustic" than any similar guitar we have heard.

We made the neck out of three-pieces of vertical grain mahogany, from the same tree as the body.

When Taylor told me he wanted a wine red finish with black hardware I thought it would be too little contrast.

Boy, was I wrong! This is possibly the sexiest red guitar we've seen.
